Trading activity in the domestic European hot-rolled coils market remained limited on Monday, December 15, as neither buyers nor sellers were forced to make transactions.

Customers have ordered enough materials scheduled for delivery in January, while the factories' order books have also been properly filled.

At the same time, the market continues to digest the recently adopted European Commission benchmarks and default emission values under the Carbon Boundary Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which will enter into force on January 1, 2026.

"It seems that more and more people are convinced that prices can really rise as soon as the excess stocks that were purchased before CBAM are sold off," said a customer source.

However, prices in both the Northern and Southern regions have remained stable so far.

In the North, plant offers from key suppliers ranged from 630-650 euros (740-763 dollars) per ton per plant, while estimates of real prices ranged from 610-630 euros per ton per plant, depending on tonnage. However, at present, customers are not interested in large-capacity transportation.
