Tata Steel Nederland has commissioned a new packaging steel production line, according to Kallanish.
According to the Dutch steelmaker, the line is based on Tata's patented TCCT (trivalent chromium coating technology) technology for packaging steel, which is more environmentally friendly and already complies with future legislation.
Tata Nederland notes that it is the exclusive developer of this technology and holds the patent. The company also licenses TCCT technology to other steel producers. The new TCCT line combines with another patented Tata Nederland technology, Protact (polymer-coated packaging steel), which does not use varnishes and does not contain chromium VI, which meets the requirements of the new European REACH legislation.
In combination with Protact, TSN meets the strictest food safety standards and simplifies the customer's production process, as no additional coat of varnish is required, the company explains. This means lower costs, using fewer chemicals, and shortening the supply chain.
In the Netherlands, more than 95% of packaging steel is recycled into new steel.
