Spain's automotive industry saw a consistent recovery in production and exports in January, Callanish said, with both indicators also rising year-on-year.
"The end of the first month of the year on the rise is a positive moment, although we should not lose sight of Germany and France, where demand fell by 10-17%," says Jose Lopez — Tafal, CEO of the Spanish automobile association Anfac. "We have to be careful in the coming months because if the reduction of the two main markets for Spanish cars continues, it will affect the production volumes of our factories."
January production in Spain reached 173,406 units, compared with 144,245 vehicles in the previous month. This volume increased by 2.6% compared to January 2025.
The Iberian country's car exports rose to 146,283 units in a month from 125,289 units in December, up 0.8% from the same period last year. The share of European markets in shipments to Spain in December was 91.8%, which is 0.4 percentage points less than last year.
According to Anfac, the main export destinations in January were Germany (25,350 units), followed by France (22,638 units) and the United Kingdom (19,928 units).
