The German Stahl — Service Westerhoff (SSW) service center is building a new production and storage facility, the area of which will increase threefold.
The SSW plant, located in Enns, in the Sauerland region, in the federal state of North Rhine—Westphalia, specializes in the production of coated sheets, from plain galvanized to non-ferrous, aluminum-zinc, zinc-magnesium and other types of coatings.
The zinc-magnesium category uses Magnelis from ArvelorMittal, "which we implemented immediately after its launch," says a company representative.
The company currently has a 5,000 m2 workshop with large cutting equipment, an unwinding line, and a precision cutting line from Japanese custom equipment supplier Amada. The raw materials are stored in an adjacent 2,500 m2 room.
The area of the new workshop, which will employ 15 additional employees, will be 15,000 m2, which will provide storage and productivity of 30,000 tons of material, as well as a large slitting line and a multi-purpose cutting line.
The start of work is scheduled for spring 2027. "Significant growth in recent years has enabled these investments to be made," the company said in a statement, adding that this also helps optimize processes, reduce storage time and throughput.
According to the spokesman, this also means consolidating the contractors he works with. "Our coated tapes are usually thinner, so when they are 5 mm thick or more, we order them from contractors," he explains to Kallanish.
SSW processes about 100,000 tons of rolled steel per year. According to local press reports, investments in the new workshop amount to 35 million euros ($41 million).
