Tuflesa has signed an agreement with SMS group to modernize its ERW pipeline

Spanish pipe manufacturer Tuflesa has signed a new upgrade agreement with SMS group aimed at increasing the productivity and accuracy of its ERW pipe production line.

Tuflesa, part of the Bornay Group, is upgrading the calibration section of its ERW-RD-240 electric resistance welded pipe production line at its Las Torres de Mallorca plant. Cotillas, near Murcia. The line was commissioned by SMS group in 1998 and has been in operation for almost 30 years.

As part of the project, four existing crates will be replaced at the calibration site of the ERW-RD-240 line. As part of the upgrade, the main drive system of the line and some existing infrastructure components will remain operational. Instead of replacing the entire line, the focus will be on areas that are considered critical to productivity.

The investment will be the second major modernization project carried out by two companies on the same production line. The welding sections of the line were upgraded in 2024.
