The Spanish steel industry Association Unesco has expressed concern about the recent rise in energy prices in Europe and its impact on the competitiveness of the industry, Kallanish notes.
The organization notes that there has been high volatility in the energy markets in recent days due to the current international geopolitical context.
"We are confident that the European Council will take measures aimed at mitigating the impact of high energy prices on the EU industry at its next meeting on March 19 and 20," Unesco said in a statement. At the same time, he hopes that the Spanish government will promote structural measures to guarantee electricity-intensive industries stable access to energy at competitive prices, in line with policies pursued by other European countries.
Unesco is also concerned about the development of the international geopolitical situation and the possible impact on global trade. Spanish metallurgists emphasize the importance of maintaining the normal functioning of strategic sea routes, especially transit through the Strait of Hormuz, which is considered a key route for the global transportation of energy and raw materials.
"Any prolonged disruption of this route could lead to disruptions in global supply chains with potential consequences for many industries, including the steel production and distribution chain," concludes Unesco.
