Portuguese Mota — Engil has confirmed its interest in a potential partnership with Kazakhstan's Eurasian Resources Group (ERG) to develop its Brazilian iron ore division, Bahia Mineração (Bamin), Kallanish reports.
The project includes the Pedra de Ferro mine with a capacity of 26 million tons per year, the West—East Integrated Railway (FIOL) and Porto Sul in the state of Bahia.
During an investor event, Manuel Mota, executive director of the engineering and construction group, said that the company is evaluating opportunities for acquisitions, joint ventures or other business operations based on its strategic priorities.
"One of our goals is to establish a strategic partnership to jointly finance the next stage of growth, strengthen our financial capacity and coordinate long-term efforts in the mining sector," Mota explained. "We are currently studying and evaluating the Bamin project, which is in line with the group's strategy."
On January 26, the Portuguese construction company held a meeting at the Planalto Palace, attended by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Minister of Transport Renan Filho and Bahia Governor Jeronimo Rodrigues, at which she presented a proposal for the development of the city's infrastructure. project.
Negotiations have progressed, and Mota — Engil is currently assessing the financial, legal and operational conditions before finalizing the deal, which may take place in the second quarter.
