European steel rebar manufacturers continued to seek higher prices in domestic markets amid rising costs and tighter import activity in the week to Wednesday, April 15, but regional performance was uneven, trade sources told Fastmarkets.
New rebar offers were presented in Germany and France at a price of 700 euros ($824) per ton.
The most recent estimates of acceptable price levels in the Nordic market were in the range of 665-680 euros per tonne, when Fastmarkets published a weekly price estimate for rebar steel rods supplied to the Nordic domestic market on April 15 at 665-680 euros per tonne, compared with 655-665 euros per tonne. per ton on April 8th.
After the publication, market sources reported that prices approaching 700 euros per tonne are gradually being accepted in Germany.
"You will see a wide range of prices these days because the market is subject to constant changes, from rising prices for scrap metal and electricity to increased pressure on imported materials," the German manufacturer said, adding that market sentiment remains positive.
In Southern Europe, the reaction of buyers was also mixed: Spanish buyers accepted the higher prices, while Italian buyers mostly took a wait-and-see attitude.
In Spain, suppliers managed to achieve a base price of 730 euros per tonne in some transactions (which corresponds to 745 euros per tonne in reality) when the weekly price estimate for rebar steel bars, domestic, delivered to Spain, was published on April 15 at 725-745 euros per tonne, compared with 715-725 euro per ton on April 8th
.Later on the same day, information appeared that large volumes were being sold at this price, and the plants now want to get a base price of 750 euros per ton, and an effective price of 765 euros per ton.
Italian suppliers also announced better deals at prices of 710-720 euros per tonne from the plant in the North and 740-750 euros per tonne from the plant in the south.
However, these higher prices were not achieved as a result of the deals, as customers delayed booking new shipments in an effort to gain more clarity on the situation.
It is estimated that reasonable prices for the North remain at the level of 670-680 euros per ton from the plant, while in the South prices are traditionally 20-30 euros per ton higher, which corresponds to 690-710 euros per ton from the plant.
Fastmarkets' weekly price estimate for rebar steel rods, domestic and exported to Italy, increased slightly to 670-710 euros per ton from the factory on April 15, compared with 670-700 euros per ton on April 8.
