Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsya) has launched a new railway connection that allows for faster and more direct freight transportation between the Romanian port of Constanta and the Ukrainian Perechin station. According to a statement on the company's Facebook page, the regular cargo route, launched in cooperation with its subsidiary UZ Cargo Poland, is aimed at creating a more efficient logistics bridge between the ports of Ukraine and Romania. The new system allows for the direct transportation of heavy loads such as steel sheets, reducing the need for transshipment and reducing costs. According to the new route, transportation is carried out through the Halmeu and Dyakovo border crossings, which ensures more flexible and reliable operation between Romanian and Ukrainian ports. Ukrzaliznytsia reported that the first shipment from the port of Constanta to the Perechin station was successfully completed, the cargo was transported directly, without unloading. The company stressed that this route offers a significant alternative, especially against the background of low traffic volumes and declining industry revenues. 18-meter platform wagons are used for transportation, and a quick-change system for trolleys with a gauge of 1520 mm by 1435 mm has been introduced. This allows you to adjust the track width without unloading, reducing the processing time to just a few hours. The company also announced that from May 1, 2026, its automated wagon repair distribution service has been operating at full capacity.
