As it became known to Kallanish, the European Commission has launched public consultations on whether the EU steel regulations should be extended to four additional categories of steel products.
,The review includes cast iron pipes, fittings, and hollow profiles; wire made of non-alloy and other alloys; stainless wire; and forged bars made of non-alloy alloys.
The Commission seeks the opinions of manufacturers, consumers, traders, importers, industry associations and other stakeholders on whether these products should be included in the regulations.
After consultations, the European Commission will evaluate the responses received before completing the review of the product list by December 31, 2026.
The EU Steel Regulation entered into force on July 1, 2026, replacing the previous EU steel protection regime.
The system includes duty-free tariff quotas totaling 18.3 million tons, as well as a 50 percent import duty in excess of quotas and a requirement for remelting and bottling aimed at preventing circumvention.
