Polish steel company Huta Częstochowa has signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korean defense manufacturer Hyundai Rotem. The parties will evaluate the potential supply of locally produced armor steel sheets for K2PL tanks and other military equipment.
The agreement defines the framework for further technical and commercial discussions on the possible use of Huta Częstochowa armored steel in Hyundai Rotem military equipment production programs.
Companies will evaluate the technical suitability of armored steel
According to the memorandum, Hyundai Rotem and Huta Częstochowa will jointly assess whether the Polish manufacturer can supply sheets of armored steel for K2PL tanks, support vehicles and other combat platforms. During the inspection, the conformity of products with technical requirements and quality standards will be examined.
The agreement is part of Hyundai Rotem's efforts to expand the participation of Polish industry in the K2 tank program. Under the second contract, 61 K2PL tanks are planned to be assembled in Poland, as well as more than 80 specialized support vehicles. Technology transfer and localization of production remain key elements of the program, and Polish enterprises are expected to gradually increase production of buildings, towers and other major components.
Huta Częstochowa strengthens its position in the Polish defense industry
In April of this year, Huta Częstochowa received a license from the Polish Ministry of the Interior and Administration, which allows the company to manufacture and sell products and technologies for military and police needs. In May, the shares of the steel mill were acquired by the Polish Military Property Agency.
Adrian Sennitsky, President of the Board of Węglokoks Huta Częstochowa, said that the company's participation in the localization of production and maintenance of K2 tanks confirms its production capabilities and supply potential for the Polish defense sector.
