Liberty Steel Newport enters voluntary liquidation

Liberty Steel Newport has entered voluntary liquidation after a creditor petitioned to have the company wound up, Kallanish reports, citing documents published in The Gazette.

In July, Siemens Financial Services filed the first petition to have the company compulsorily wound up. A creditors’ meeting was subsequently held.

On October 12, the same company filed a new petition for liquidation, on the day a creditors’ meeting was held. Liberty Steel Newport director Ian Hunter confirmed the decision to liquidate the company voluntarily.

That same day, creditors were sent a notice appointing TG Begbies Traynor and Kroll Advisory as joint liquidators of the company.

According to Companies House, the company had not filed accounts since March 31, 2021. Its latest accounts covered the period up to March 31, 2019.

Production at the site is believed to have been inactive for several years.

A Liberty Steel spokesperson declined to comment in response to a request from Kallanish.

The insolvency decision follows the compulsory liquidation of GFG-owned British company Speciality Steel (SSUK). It was wound up by the High Court in London in August 2025.
