The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a program for the fair transformation of Ukraine's coal regions until 2030.
This was stated by Prime Minister Denis Shmygal during the grand opening of the Power4JustTransition program for coal regions and communities, Ukrinform reports.
He specified that the program covers activities in 38 communities related to coal mining and thermal generation. According to him, the government has focused on 4 key areas: supporting the local economy, developing decentralized and diversified energy, human capital, and environmental sustainability.
The Prime Minister noted that the program is the result of cooperation with German partners. He also recalled that, with the support of the German government, a three-year project of structural changes in the coal regions of Ukraine was launched in 2021.
According to him, the initiative covered the Lviv and Volyn regions. As part of the project, Ukraine received more than 1,000 pieces of technical equipment from Germany and 35 other countries to eliminate the consequences of Russian shelling.
