Kazakhstan is building a giant coke plant with the participation of Chinese investors

The Government of Kazakhstan has approved an investment agreement for the construction of a metallurgical coke plant in the Karaganda region between the Ministry of Energy and Kazakhstan Success Coking Energy, which belongs to Chinese Xinha Resources (part of Xinjiang Sokos New Materials), Metal Expert reports.

The new production facilities should significantly reduce the country's dependence on imported raw materials.

The project provides for the construction of a coke chemical complex with a total capacity of 1 million tons of metallurgical coke per year in the Karaganda region, as well as a coal mine to meet the needs of the enterprise.

The volume of investments in the project will amount to 63.6 billion tenge ($136 million at the exchange rate of $1 = 467.63 tenge).

The launch of production is planned to be carried out in stages: first of all, with a capacity of 500 thousand tons. It is planned to put tons of coke per year into operation in 2029, and the enterprise should reach its design capacity by the end of 2031.
