The State Service of Geology and Mineral Resources of Ukraine, represented by Chairman Roman Opimach, and the Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute, acting as the national geological and hydrological service of Poland, represented by Director Mateusz Damrath, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the sector of geology and mineral resources .
“The format of cooperation between the parties provides for the study and development of mineral resources, the exchange of experience in unifying legislation in the mining sector, geological mapping and visual methods for accumulating information, studying groundwater and protecting it from degradation, monitoring the state of the environment, studying the conditions for waste disposal and storage of useful substances in geological structures, analysis and development of technologies for the extraction of critical and strategic cinnamon minerals from man-made deposits and dumps, digital modeling of geological processes and structures, analysis of best practices for the collection, storage and open access to geological data, study of geological diversity, mutual improvement geological analysis technician and its methods, as well as the involvement of experts to conduct an economic assessment (feasibility study) on the prospects for the development of Ukrainian deposits of critical raw materials in preparation for the green transition and the search for new ore occurrences," the State Geo- subsoil of Ukraine reported.
According to Roman Opimakh, priority in cooperation with Polish partners will be given to the digitalization of secondary geological information and the establishment of management of primary geoinformation according to EU standards, regulation of activities with geothermal energy sources. It is also planned to exchange experience on the unification of legislation in the field of subsoil use in order to improve the investment climate in Ukraine.
In accordance with the Memorandum, certain areas of cooperation will include the following disciplines: economic geology, environmental geochemistry, geoheritage, laboratory research, cartography, engineering geology, hydrogeology.
The signing of the document took place on June 23, 2022 for five years in the presence of the State Secretary of the Ministry of Climate and Environment of the Republic of Poland, the chief geologist of the country Piotr Dziadzio. Deepening the strategic partnership in the sector of geology and mineral resources - continuation of cooperation between Ukraine and Poland in the context of fulfilling the tasks following the official visit of the President of Ukraine V.A. Zelensky to the Republic of Poland, held in January this year, as well as to implement the agreements reached between the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine and the Ministry of Climate and Environment of the Republic of Poland.
