Steel production in the Russian Federation in 2022 may decrease by 5.5%, to 73.5 million tons compared to last year, in the baseline forecast included in the draft strategy for the development of the metallurgical industry of the Russian Federation. In a conservative forecast, the fall will be 10%, to 70 million tons.
According to the baseline forecast, in 2023 steel production will amount to 73.8 million tons against 77.8 million tons in 2021, in 2024 - 75.1 million tons, in 2025 - 76.7 million tons, in 2030 year - 85.2 million tons.
According to the results of 2022, according to the baseline forecast, export deliveries of finished steel products may decrease by 8.13%, to 26 million tons compared to 2021. In 2023-2024, a further 6.9% decrease is projected, to 24.2 million tons. In 2025, a slight increase in exports is expected - up to 24.3 million tons, and in 2030 - up to 27.6 million tons of finished products.
As reported, steel production in Russia slowed down the fall in August due to increased demand from the construction sector and increased profitability due to cheaper coal. In total, according to the World Steel Association, 5.9 million tons of steel were produced in August, 48.9 million tons of steel were produced in January-August, which is 5.8% less than the same period last year.
