In the Murmansk region of the Russian Federation it is planned to build a mini steel plant producing grinding balls and long products, including rebar for construction. As raw material the plant will use scrap metal, including case of old ships, scuttled in the Kola Bay. The estimated amount of investment in the project is 3.5 billion rubles, reports "the Russian newspaper".
It is supposed to be placed in the village of Nickel, where it will be closed smelting, to the residents of the village did not remain without work, said the representative of one of the investors of the project Alexey Raicevich at a business conference dedicated to the development of the village.
"Now the project investors determine in its timing. With some of the banks have reached an agreement. It is expected to produce 55 thousand tons of balls and 80 thousand tonnes of long products (including rebar) in the year", - stated in the message.
Grinding balls are used in industry for crushing ore. Along with the ore they are placed in a drum, the rotation that the balls grind the rock rotates along with it. These balls are in demand for the mining companies and Murmansk oblast is among their main consumers in Russia. But in the Northwest of the grinding balls are not made, their has to be brought from Western Siberia, and so far transportation increases their cost by 10-13 percent.
