European Commission announced today about investments in the amount of 101.2 million euros for new projects under the LIFE programme: "environment and climate". Funding will support 10 regional "green" projects in Cyprus, Estonia, France, Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Spain.
"European green agreement is aimed at improving the welfare and prosperity of our citizens while protecting nature and climate. LIFE projects are playing an important role for many years and have a great influence on the ground. With today's investment of 100 million euros we will help to preserve precious natural habitats, keep air clean and reduce pollution in many lakes and rivers of Europe," commented Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans.
Investing in a LIFE designed to mobilize more than 6.5 billion euros of additional funds, as member States of the EU can also use other funding sources, including agricultural, regional and structural funds, Horizon 2020 and national funds and private sector investment.
the European Commission said that large-scale environmental projects in the framework of the "European green agreement" fully comply with the EU's ambitions to become, by 2050, the world's first climate-neutral continent.
