The sulfuric acid shop of the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant has halved the repair time for equipment. The automation of the process was made possible by the involvement of robotic equipment and a Liebherr crane with a lifting capacity of 750 tons. With the help of a giant lift, it was possible to assemble the 14-meter drying tower in advance, and then completely mount it in the workshop. Previously, the structure had to first be dismantled, taken out, and only then a new one should be installed inside the workshop.
- Initially, there were many doubts about the feasibility of this task: this is a heavy weight of the structure, and inestimable risks, and a cramped space around the workshop. After all, it was important not only to raise the 170-ton tower by 50 meters, but also to install it very accurately inside the workshop, - said the chief mechanic of CZP Alexander Bukhmiller.
The elevator that meets the technical requirements for the repair was delivered from Moscow ... This took 28 cars. Its assembly and preparation for operation took 8 days of continuous operation. The new crane is capable of holding a load of 750 tonnes - more than three times the weight of the tower it had to lift while refurbishing the sulfuric acid workshop.
- The project was successfully completed as part of an operational transformation program aimed at increasing productivity and improving the working conditions of employees. Reducing the repair period by 23.5 days will increase the production of commercial zinc by more than 2,800 tons, the economic effect of the initiative on the EBITDA of the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant will amount to more than 80 million rubles, - said Pavel Izbrecht, General Director of the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant.
