The English name for the term crane is сock (“cock”). The same name for this term in German is hahn. The name comes from the shape of the first small faucets, installed on water fountains and columns in the cities of Ancient Rome. The outlet pipe looks like a beak, the handle is a comb, and the lower part is a rooster's beard, perhaps the handles were made entirely in the form of his images. In Belgium, Morocco and other countries, fragments of fountains from the time of the Roman Empire have been preserved, on the branch pipes of which small taps with handles in the form of a rooster are installed. Similar fountains were built by the Romans in many cities. Later, the word "rooster" (cock) was adopted as the term "faucet", as defined by GOST 19681-94.
