Izhstal modernizes foundry facilities

Press Releases
The Izhstal plant (part of the Mechel Group) has increased the power capacity of the foundry. This will increase the production of high-quality foundry products from special grades of steel, which the plant provides to the mining enterprises of the Mechel Group for installation on excavators and other mining equipment.

The plant has put into operation a new 6 kV cable route for the simultaneous operation of existing steel-making furnaces. The length of the route exceeded 1200 meters, the company's specialists laid more than 20 tons of cable.

Earlier, in addition to the five-ton furnace available in the workshop for the production of large-scale cast iron, two DC furnaces with a capacity of 1.4 tons each were installed to produce high-quality castings from alloy steel grades. The production capacity of small-scale furnaces is about 800 tons of casting per year. This expanded the range of the foundry to 1,500 items of castings, most of which are parts for mining equipment, including mining excavators. Small-scale castings are also in demand when carrying out repairs of metallurgical equipment.

In the future, it is planned to purchase additional molding machines and a mixer for cold hardening mixtures, which will increase productivity and improve the quality of foundry products.

an important task: to meet the demand of the Group's mining enterprises for high-quality castings. Therefore, the greatest attention is paid to the technical re-equipment of the foundry, "said Sergey Kozennov, Managing Director of PJSC Izhstal.
