Discreteness is very easy to see on mechanical measuring instruments, because they all contain a measurement scale that contains the division value, which denotes discreteness. And the error is easy to determine just by looking at the weighing readings and seeing that the arrow points between two division marks. The error on the linear measurement scale is equal to half of the division value of the scale.

In electronic scales, everything is much more complicated. After all, the weighing result is displayed on the indicator in a fixed reading, and it is impossible to understand the discreteness with an error. Let us analyze the principle of operation of electronic scales, which consist of several aspen elements. Load-receiving platform of scales (GPU). A load is placed on its surface, the weight of which must be known.

Tensometric sensors. It is the main element in weighing equipment that reacts to mechanical changes and transmits data about changes in the form of a signal to the weighing terminal.

Weight terminal. Equipment for decoding the signals of strain gauges and outputting the obtained weighing results.

Each of these elements has its own individual characteristics, which do not depend on others. From this we can assume several options for the operation of electronic scales.

The high sensitivity of the strain gauge responds to hundredths of a gram, but the weighing terminal is not able to distinguish such a difference in the received signal and interprets it to the nearest gram.

The high sensitivity of the weighing terminal is able to register even the slightest changes in the transmitted signals, and the strain gauge does not have a high sensitivity.

The weighing terminal and the load cell fully correspond to each other's characteristics, but the display mode is specially adjusted to round the received values.

The indicator is set to more accurate readings than the actual readings of the terminal-load cell bundle, the resulting readings will be incorrect.

The last option is full compliance with the capabilities of the equipment and settings, in which case everything works as normal and the error value corresponds to the standard one.

reference Information

All this was told so that an understanding of one simple thing arose - discreteness and error are not the same thing, they are not equal and do not affect each other in any way. Discreteness is an artificially chosen value, the size of which depends only on desire. The error is an objective value that depends only on the capabilities of the equipment and cannot be corrected.
