TMK continues to successfully supply pipe products for the Sakhalin-2 project

Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) has supplied the second batch of casing pipes with a diameter of 244.45 x 11.99 mm, strength group L80 with TMK UP PF threaded connection, to Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd. (Sakhalin Energy) within the framework of the Sakhalin-2 oil and gas project. The batch was produced at the Volzhsky Pipe Plant (VTZ), which is part of TMK. In September 2019, a tubular string was successfully launched into an oil production well from the Molikpaq platform at the Piltun-Astokhskoye field in the Sea of Okhotsk with the participation of TMK supervisors.

The order was completed under a long-term agreement signed in October 2017 between TMK and Sakhalin Energy for the supply of premium oil country tubular products.

The start of supplies became possible after TMK's pipe products, with the support of Sakhalin Energy, passed the international qualification in accordance with Shell requirements. TMK UP PF connections in 2014-2016 were qualified for the highest level of complexity CAL IV according to the international API 5C5 standard. In parallel, in 2014-2017, VTZ successfully qualified, which included an audit of the quality system, non-destructive testing tools, all production processes of steelmaking and pipe rolling, as well as heat treatment of pipes and threading.

As a result, TMK became a qualified supplier to Shell, and TMK UP PF was included in its list of approved threaded connections, which makes it possible to supply these products for international projects of an oil and gas company. Currently, qualification tests are underway for pipe products of a number of standard sizes with TMK UP CENTUM threaded connections. They are expected to be completed in 2020.

“Through rigorous qualifications from Shell, TMK has proven that it can produce world-class tubular products that meet any requirement. I am confident that next year we will expand the range of pipes and threaded connections that will be approved for use in both Shell projects and other foreign oil and gas companies, "said Igor Korytko, General Director of TMK.

Sakhalin- 2 ”- an oil and gas project implemented on Sakhalin Island under a production sharing agreement. The operator of the project is Sakhalin Energy, which is developing the Piltun-Astokhskoye and Lunskoye fields on the northeastern shelf of the island.
