Chelyabinsk Pipe Rolling Plant (ChTPZ) and TMK Pipeline Solutions, part of the Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK), have mastered the technology of heat treatment of large-diameter pipes (LDP) on an industrial scale. Treated pipes with improved performance characteristics will be used for laying pipelines of complex designs.
At the production sites of ChelPipe, heat treatment of a pilot batch of products in the amount of 200 tons was successfully carried out. The operation makes it possible to reduce the level of residual stresses that arise during the molding of pipes with a diameter of 508 and 813 mm, to minimize installation and operational risks and thereby reduce the time for commissioning of pipelines.
New technological and logistics solutions were applied within the framework of the project. In particular, a scheme for the arrangement of pipes on supports was developed for maximum filling of the furnace cages of pipe rolling shops, and the optimal time and temperature conditions were selected.
“Modern technological base, constant improvement of the production process and reliance on highly qualified personnel give TMK the opportunity to focus on expanding the product and service portfolio in accordance with market needs. The joint work of ChelPipe and TMK TR specialists allowed the company not only to master a new technology and for the first time carry out heat treatment of large-diameter pipes on an industrial scale, but also to optimize costs and reduce production time,” noted TMK Deputy General Director for Technology and Quality Evgeniy Zaselsky .
The next stage of the project to master the technology of heat treatment of large-diameter pipes will be the operation of heat treatment of thick-walled pipes manufactured on welding mills with using multi-pass welding.
