The Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) spoke about the use of best available technologies (BAT) at its industrial enterprises as part of the conference “Environmental Data and Data”, which was held in Moscow by the Kommersant publishing house.
In During the plenary session of the event, TMK chief ecologist Marianna Klimova noted that the company always pays great attention to environmental issues when implementing investment programs, using best global practices, and its specialists take participation in the development of information and technical reference books for BAT.
TMK uses an integrated approach to minimize the impact on the environment and uses technologies considered to be the best and most accessible. Thus, in the company's electric steelmaking production, 60% of the solutions prescribed by the industry BAT guide have been implemented, and currently the process of implementing another 20% of them is underway. In the production of pipes, 65% of the solutions and processes included in the industry information and technical reference book (ITS NDT 27-2023) “Production of products for the further processing of ferrous metals” are used; the implementation of another 20% of the technologies specified in the document is being studied.
The factories also have accredited laboratory complexes that carry out the necessary research and measurements, including procedures important for the transition to technological regulation, conducting industrial environmental control, assessing the operation of equipment and compliance with established environmental requirements.
“Today, one of the most pressing topics for TMK is obtaining comprehensive environmental permits. They have already been issued to the Volzhsky Pipe and Taganrog Metallurgical Plants, and five more objects of the first category of environmental impact are preparing to receive such permits. At the same time, at enterprises that have already received EPR, work is underway to introduce an automatic emission control system. We are also exploring the possibility of using predictive emission control systems, which could potentially become an alternative to automatic control systems,” said Marianna Klimova.
TMK is implementing programs to improve environmental efficiency, which include, in particular, the modernization of water treatment systems. Good results were demonstrated by modern water treatment facilities at the Pervouralsk Novotrubny (PNTZ), Seversky Pipe (STZ) and Chelyabinsk Pipe Rolling (ChTPZ) plants, and the reconstruction of water supply and water consumption systems at the Sinarsky Pipe Plant (SinTZ) is currently beginning.
Reducing the environmental impact in accordance with the best available technologies and increasing the energy efficiency of production processes are among the priorities TMK's environmental policy, which sets out basic approaches to environmental activities, as well as its main indicators, implementation and evaluation mechanisms.
