EUROMETAL was proudly represented at the Steel Summit 2026, organized by SteelRadar and held from 13 to 15 May 2026 in Izmir, Turkey.
The event brought together leading representatives of the international steel industry to discuss market development, sustainability, trade, decarbonization, and the future competitiveness of the steel sector in an increasingly complex geopolitical and regulatory environment.
EUROMETAL President Alexander Julius and EUROMETAL Board member Typhoon Isheri actively participated in the conference, contributing to high-level discussions on the development of the carbon economy and the impact of European climate change policy on the steel market.
On May 14, 2026, both representatives participated in a "Carbon Economy Discussion" on the topic "The impact of carbon costs on competition and pricing in the European steel market." The session focused on the growing impact of carbon costs on the pricing structure, competitiveness and trade flows in the European steel industry, including the introduction of CBAM, EU ETS, protective quotas, as well as the implications for producers, importers and exports of steel of Turkish origin in 2026-2027 market conditions.
The discussion was moderated by Typhoon Isheri, Chairman of the Management Board of YISAD and member of the Management Board of EUROMETAL, as well as Alexander Julius, President of EUROMETAL and Managing Partner of Macrometal, as well as Fatih Gokce, Executive Director of the Diler Holding Metallurgical Group, Gabriel Rosenberg, founder and CEO of CBAMBOO, and Tsanislav Kolev, Director of Business Development and Decarbonization at NLMK Europe.
During the debate, Alexander Julius was asked about the future of the European steel industry in the context of the fact that the European Union is increasingly striving to create more favorable market conditions for steel production. He stressed that Europe must protect not only the primary steel industry.increase production capacity, but also protect the entire ecosystem of steel processing, distribution and production, which depends on a competitive and reliable steel supply chain.
He explained that the future competitiveness of the European steel industry will depend on Europe's ability to combine the desire for decarbonization with industrial competitiveness, fair terms of trade and effective protection against carbon leakage throughout the value chain. According to EUROMETAL, maintaining a strong industrial base in Europe requires balanced policies that can protect both the steelmaking and processing industries.
