Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) presented its strategy, product diversification experience and integrated project implementation opportunities at the 23rd Metallurgical Summit "Russian Steel: a Growth Strategy". Sergey Alekseev, TMK's Director of Global and Strategic Marketing, spoke about the trends in the global and Russian steel and pipe markets, as well as the company's growth points in modern conditions.
In 2025, the volume of global consumption of steel pipes decreased by 2% compared to last year, experts predict that demand will remain at the level of 2025 in 2026. In the Russian market, consumption decreased from 11.3 million to 9.5 million tons in 2025, with the largest decline occurring in the second half of 2025, while the decline in demand slowed in the first four months of 2026.
At the moment, the pipe industry is adapting to market realities, with pent-up demand forming in various consuming industries. According to expert estimates, the demand for steel pipes as an indispensable structural material, the easing of monetary policy, the restoration of civilian sectors of the economy and the implementation of infrastructure projects, as well as the policy of increasing technological independence will become factors in maintaining demand.
Sergey Alekseev noted that volume and quality indicators in the structure of steel pipe consumption will be positively influenced by the expected increase in the number of mature hydrocarbon deposits and an increase in the share of hard-to-recover reserves, which implies the use of more high-tech products. The construction of the Power of Siberia –2 gas pipeline may also become a driver of demand growth.
"Against this background, the premium products in TMK's portfolio are a strategic advantage and solve any problems related to the complexity of drilling and operating conditions for new wells. We also provide a range of services related to the operation of these products, ranging from proper use and supervision of the author to repair, assembly, timely delivery and other services," said Sergey Alekseev.
He said that TMK is currently positioning itself as an industrial engineering company, taking into account its experience and competencies.
"We are ready to develop design documentation for our customers, complete equipment and participate in construction — these are the competencies of the EPC contractor, which are a logical continuation of development for us," said Sergey Alekseev.
He also gave examples of the diversification of TMK's pipe products supplies for the construction of chemical complexes, thermal energy facilities, the automotive industry and other industries in which high-tech solutions are in demand.
