The medium-width Tk strip rolling mill in Hohenlimburg intends to increase the share of clean energy in its energy consumption from the current 40% to 100%, according to Kallanish from the online publication thyssenkrupp Steel.
Two years ago, the power unit began receiving electricity from the SL Natur Energie wind farm, which is also located in the Hohenlimburg district of Hagen. The company claims that thanks to the local connection, the plant became the first German industrial enterprise to receive direct power from the wind farm next door.
SL Natur Energie is a wind energy company that seeks partnerships with local companies and municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia.
It operates 180 wind farms at 36 sites, with a total annual electricity generation of 1.2 terawatt-hours, which avoids emissions of 835.00 tons of CO2. Its facility in Hohenlimburg Park became operational in mid-2004 and has a capacity of 55 gigawatt-hours per year.
