MMK launched the first sintering machine of the new sinter plant
Press Releases
The launch was attended by Viktor Rashnikov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC MMK, and Pavel Shilyaev, General Director of PJSC MMK. “The construction of the fifth sinter plant with a capacity of 5.5 million tons per year will provide the blast furnace shop with high-quality agglomerate and reduce the cost of pig iron,” stressed Viktor Rashnikov and added that the best available, energy-saving and environmentally friendly technologies were used in organizing production at the new sinter plant. “One of our strategic goals is the transition to modern environmentally friendly technological processes. All projects that the company has been implementing recently are focused on achieving this goal. I am sure that the environmental measures planned for implementation at MMK, including the sinter production, will allow us to achieve our goals and make Magnitka a truly clean city, "said the Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC MMK. Pavel Shilyaev noted that “MMK's new sinter plant is equipped with nineteen environmental facilities - in particular, electrostatic precipitators, sinter gas aspiration and recirculation systems, a gypsum dehydration unit, and a stormwater collection and drainage system. The implementation of this project will significantly reduce the impact on the environment. Dust emissions into the atmosphere will be reduced by 2.1 thousand tons per year, sulfur dioxides - by 3.5 thousand tons per year. In addition, discharges of suspended solids into the circulating water supply system will decrease by 600 tons per year and benzopyrene emissions by almost a quarter. According to MMK representatives, the implementation of the project will also make it possible to dispose of sludge from sulfur trapping units to obtain commercial gypsum and exclude the disposal of 13.75 thousand tons of waste per year in sludge storage facility No. 2. With the launch of the new sinter plant, it will be possible to decommission and preserve the morally and physically obsolete sinter plant No. 4, to improve the working conditions of the sintering plant workers. MMK's managers visited the main control post of sinter plant No. 5. From here, in the automatic mode (this is the fundamental difference between the new sinter plant and the old ones), the entire technological process of sinter production will be controlled, from loading the sinter machine to the cooling of the sinter. Only three people will be at the main post: two senior sinter and a senior batcher. Thanks to the video surveillance system at all important areas (in dosing buildings, sinter loading, screening and on the sintering machines themselves), they will be able to control the heating of the hearth, the moisture content of the dosed batch, loading the batch onto the pallets of the sintering machine, loading the agglomerate into hoppers from their workplace. installation of the main technological equipment on sintering machine No. 2 continues. Its launch is scheduled for July this year. When fully loaded, the productivity of the fifth sinter plant will amount to 5.5 million tons of stabilized cooled sinter per year, which will provide MMK's blast furnace shop with high-quality raw materials produced using modern energy-saving and environmentally friendly technologies.
