Metalloinvest held a scientific and technical conference "Prospects for modern metal bridge construction" with the participation of representatives of leading industry research institutes and key consumers of bridge steel.

The event participants discussed topical issues of using rolled steel in the production of bridge metal structures and ways of further development of the industry.

The conference was attended by General Director of Metalloinvest Management Company Andrey Varichev, First Deputy General Director - Production Director Andrey Ugarov, First Deputy General Director - Commercial Director Nazim Efendiev, Director of Domestic Sales Andrey Prosyanik, Chief Engineer of Ural Steel Dmitry Burtsev; Head of the Ural Steel Rolled Steel Technical Support Department Andrey Pridein.

Andrey Pridein made a presentation on technological improvements in rolled steel production at Ural Steel, research work in the field of bridge construction and regulatory changes in the industry.

The following reports were also made at the conference:

  • “Atmospheric-resistant steels” - by Vladimir Kopyrin, technical director of “Kurganstalmost” CJSC;
  • "The use of weather-resistant steel in the seaside zone and northern latitudes" - chief specialist of JSC "Institute Giprostroymost" Eduard Gitman;
  • "The use of weather-resistant steel in railway and road bridges" - Chief Researcher of JSC "VNIIZhT" Alexander Konyukhov;
  • "Unification of standards requirements for rolled products for bridge construction" - Deputy General Director of FSUE TsNIIchermet im. I.P. Bardin ”by Gennady Eremin.

One of the key issues of the conference was the use of heavy-plate steel made of 14KhGNDTs steel in accordance with STO 13657842-1-2009 in bridge construction. This steel was developed by Ural Steel together with TsNIIchermet im. I.P. Bardeen ". Corrosion-resistant properties of steel make it possible to operate metal structures without applying paint and varnish coating, thus reducing costs on initial cost by 10-15% and up to 30% on life cycle costs.

“I consider such an event useful, necessary and timely,” noted the Deputy General Director of FSUE TsNIIchermet im. I.P. Bardin ”Gennady Eremin. - There are issues that need to be addressed together within the framework of such conferences. New technological solutions are needed to move forward and master new types of products. Russian manufacturers must increase their competitiveness and stay ahead of world leaders. For this, cooperation of all industry participants in research and development is important. "

Metalloinvest is a leading Russian manufacturer and supplier of high quality bridge steel. The company invests in the modernization of equipment and the development of unique steel grades that meet the needs of consumers. Over the 10th anniversary from 2009 to 2018, Metalloinvest supplied almost 1.5 million tonnes of heavy plate for bridge construction. The share of rolled products from grades developed by Ural Steel (10ХСНДА, 15ХСНДА and 14ХГНДЦ according to STO 13657842-1-2009) accounted for more than half of the supply volume.

Many landmark projects in Russia were built using steel produced by Ural Steel, which is a confirmation of the high quality of products and reliability of supplies. A bridge to the Russky Island, structures of an unsupported coating of the Vnukovo-1 airport complex, many Olympic facilities and road infrastructure in Sochi and Krasnaya Polyana, the Central Ring Road, the WHSD, stadiums for the 2018 World Cup in Samara, Volgograd, Rostov-on were built from Ural Steel. -Don, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Kaliningrad. Bridges across the rivers Amur, Volga, Oka, Ob, Nadym, Tura, Tobol, Kama, Samarka, Irtysh, Dyoma, etc. Road junctions have been erected on the Moscow Ring Road, North-West, North-East and South-East Chords of Moscow, in Tyumen, on automobile bypasses of Podolsk, Kaluga, Losevo and Pavlovsk; railway overpasses of BAM, Transsib, Krasnodar railway bypass and many other objects.
