In the roasting shop of the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant (an enterprise of the UMMC group), the overhaul of the KS-2 fluidized bed furnace has been completed.
The KS furnace is the main metallurgical equipment designed for roasting the charge in the zinc production process. The roasting shop has five kilns. Unlike annual current repairs, major overhauls are carried out every 8-10 years. This is necessary to maintain a safe and efficient condition of this equipment.
Overhaul of the firing complex is a complete renovation of the furnace and evaporative cooling unit. In fact, the old furnace is dismantled together with the foundation and a new one is built in its place. The uninterrupted operation and duration of the furnace depends on the quality of the measures taken, and the longer it is, the more profitable the operation of the shop and the entire zinc production.
It took the employees of the enterprise about a month to dismantle the old furnace, and all this was carried out without stopping the production process. The installation of the new furnace was carried out on site. The furnace body, which is the most important element, is made of 10mm carbon steel. When performing refractory masonry, more than 10 types of refractory bricks were used, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 950-980 ° C. During the lining, the brick is laid out in several layers, with a total thickness of 560 mm, the bottom (hearth) of the furnace is poured with heat-resistant concrete, and the gas duct and evaporative cooling elements are assembled.
The main goal of the measures is the stable trouble-free operation of the facility for ensuring industrial safety and fulfilling the production plan. The costs of the enterprise for the overhaul amounted to about 72 million rubles.
For reference:
The roasting of zinc concentrates, which is carried out in the KS kilns of the roasting shop, is the initial link in the zinc technological chain. The main task of roasting is a quick, complete and economical conversion of sulfide zinc into oxide, from which zinc is more efficiently restored. The firing process in KS furnaces is carried out at a temperature of 950-970 C⁰. Today, three KS furnaces are involved in the work of the roasting shop, the capacity of one furnace is about (400-410 TDC) tons of charge loading (a mixture of materials loaded into the furnace) per day.
