PJSC Severstal is upgrading the flat-rolled products production facilities of the Cherepovets Steel Works to strengthen the company's position in the machine-building industry. As a reminder, as part of the transformational changes in the company, the principle of working with the client has changed. Three priority areas were identified: “Mechanical Engineering”, “Energy”, “Construction”.

“In accordance with the wishes of customers from the automotive and mechanical engineering industries, we have to seriously expand the technical and technological capabilities of flat products production. We have already moved to the active phase of the implementation of the program for the development of wide range of products in demand among customers. The volume of investments in this area will amount to 8 billion rubles. The program includes a set of investment measures on several units at once, as a result of which we will remove the current restrictions in production with a width of up to 1850 mm, ”commented Alexander Shevelev, CEO of Severstal.

Renewal of metal cut-to-length units in metal finishing workshop No.2 gives the opportunity to produce hot-rolled sheet products with increased flatness and absence of internal stresses, avoiding the distortion of the workpieces by post-thermal cutting at the client's site. This will allow Severstal to process metal in accordance with the growing requirements of customers in the machine-building industry.

New roll rewinding units will help to process metal roll efficiently. One of them - APR-650 - was put into operation in the second quarter of this year in the metal finishing workshop No. 2. Thanks to this solution, it becomes possible to produce a quality product with high added value - steel suitable for laser cutting, which is widely demanded in the automotive industry. The total cost of the project, taking into account the entire additional infrastructure, amounted to about 1.2 billion rubles.

“In combination with a comprehensive program to improve product quality using digital technologies, and improve the planning system to improve the accuracy of order execution, Severstal will become a leading supplier of solutions for customers of the automotive industry in Russia ", - said Alexander Shevelev.
