Today in Yekaterinburg, the first domed roof truss of the Multifunctional Ice Arena under construction, designed for 15 thousand spectators, was raised.
“The lifting of this large-scale system was carried out using a crawler crane. The truss is 82 m long, 8 m high and weighs 194 tons. It is assembled using 8750 high-strength bolts of 41 elements, - explained Danil Kritsky, General Director of Ice Arena JSC. “For the assembly and installation of the truss, special custom-made structures were developed and installed: a slipway for its assembly in a vertical position and a traverse for lifting."
The first two trusses will be erected entirely at full length, all the next 10 trusses will be made of semi-trusses using an intermediate temporary support.
The metal structures of the domed roof of the Ice Arena are provided from trusses with support on the short side of the bowl with a system of horizontal and vertical ties. The covering has dimensions of 99.8x129.8 meters, its area is about 11,500 square meters. The height of the trusses is variable - from 5 meters in the support part to 11 meters in the ridge.
The total weight of the main structures of the roof of the arena (trusses, beams, braces, girders) is 4,252 tons, the secondary ones (walkways and service platforms) - 428 tons. To assemble them, you will need 167 thousand bolts. The total weight of the profiled sheet is 220 tons, and the flooring of walkways and service areas is 44 tons.
As a reminder, the start of construction of the Multifunctional Ice Arena for 15,000 spectators in Yekaterinburg was given on October 31, 2019 by the Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities RF Vladimir Yakushev, Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Evgeny Kuyvashev and General Director of UMMC Andrey Kozitsyn. In addition to hockey matches, the equipment of the Ice Arena will allow holding competitions in 11 more sports: figure skating, basketball, volleyball, mini-football, etc. The ice arena can also be transformed into a concert and entertainment venue.
