Uralelectromed JSC (an enterprise of the UMMC metallurgical complex) continues construction of the third stage of the copper electrolysis workshop. Currently, the main focus is on the completion of the heating circuit and the installation of electrolysis baths.
According to Vadim Mironov, Director for Construction and Reconstruction of Uralelectromed JSC, the construction of the facility is proceeding in accordance with the approved schedule:
- The first baths have already been installed on sub-series ramps. In total, during 2021, it is planned to install all 224 baths and completely close the heating circuit, he noted.
A special crane with a lifting capacity of 10 tons, equipped with two 5-ton hoists, is used for the installation of the baths. At the same time, the workshop is manufacturing reinforced concrete structures of sub-series overpasses for the second technological span and coating them with anti-corrosion paint.
Metal frames are installed on the roof of the technological spans for the subsequent installation of window structures of skylights. The installation of metal columns, which serve as the basis for fastening the enclosing sandwich panels, continues.
Note that the third stage will also operate using a baseless technology using stainless steel cathodes. The new facility will house one circulation system, consisting of 224 electrolysis baths with associated technological equipment (tanks, pumps, heat exchangers). The project also provides for the installation of two automated lines - an anode preparation machine and an anode scrap washing machine.
Recall that in February 2012, Uralelectromed JSC commissioned the first stage of a modern workshop with a capacity of 160 thousand tons of cathode copper in year. In May 2018, the second stage with a similar capacity was launched. The new production facility will allow the enterprise to produce a total of about 400 thousand tons of copper cathodes per year.
