Scientists from the University of Manchester and specialists from the British defense company BAE Systems Plc are developing the world's first aircraft that can maneuver without flaps. This was reported by Bloomberg.
It is noted that this technology was tested on a Magma model drone, the details of which were printed on a 3D printer. Such a drone uses air currents to control its movements. An innovative jet engine releases them at supersonic speed through narrow slots on the trailing edge of the wing.
According to a company representative, an aircraft with such technology is lighter in weight, more reliable and cheaper to operate.
The Magma model can also maneuver by deflecting the thrust vector. Here, driving is controlled by the exhaust gases in the engine itself, which are deflected in various directions to aid steering.
