Liberian President George Mann Wee opened the country's first steel plant, expressing optimism about foreign investors' interest in Liberia's economy.
Construction of the plant, located in Montserrado County, began in 2018. The project was developed by the Chinese construction company Qinggle International Group Development Company Limited.
The new US $ 22 million-built steel plant will specialize in the production of rectangular pipes, round steel pipes, reinforcing steel bars and angle steels and services to meet the demand in the Liberian market and the West African sub-region.
The plant is environmentally friendly, has its own power plant that generates smokeless energy for the plant using HFO fuel.
President Weah warns the Liberians employed by Sethi Brothers Steel that the country will need more factories to handle the production of raw materials and supplies, which will significantly propel the economy forward.
The owner of the new plant, Mr. Paul Sethi from India, reveals that the business has recruited at least 500 Liberians and hopes to recruit more Liberians as the operation progresses.
