Turkey has agreed to a five-day ceasefire in northeastern Syria to allow Kurdish forces to withdraw from the conflict zone, US Vice President Mike Pence said Thursday after talks with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.
"Today, the United States and Turkey agreed to a ceasefire in Syria," Pence said at a press conference after four hours of talks at the presidential palace in Ankara.
Pence arrived in Turkey yesterday to discuss the Spring of Peace military operation, which Ankara launched under the aegis of the fight against terrorism.
"All military operations under Operation Peace Spring will be suspended and the operation will be completely halted once the withdrawal is complete," he said.
