Beijing is planning to create a special "rocket street" as a research and production center for the development of the commercial aerospace industry.
The creation of this street is part of the Chinese capital's efforts to develop the commercial aerospace industry.
Jiang Guangzhi, head of the Beijing Municipal Administration of Economics and Information Technology, said at a conference on Saturday that the city has developed measures to develop the satellite Internet industry and supported 41 commercial startup projects, the funding of which exceeded 100 million yuan (approximately 14 million US dollars). ).
According to him, the KAP sphere in Beijing includes 157 key enterprises, including a number of state-level “small giants” involved in commercial launches. Rocket companies are concentrated in the south of Beijing, and satellite-related businesses are concentrated in the north of the city.
In 2023, Beijing-based private launch vehicle enterprises carried out a total of 13 space launches.
Currently, the city's commercial launch vehicle industry is developing reusable prototypes, which could achieve a breakthrough in 2024-2025, he added.
To accelerate the development of the commercial aerospace industry, Beijing will continue to direct aerospace science and technology resources to the commercial aerospace sector. Jiang Guangzhi noted that efforts will be made to expand the use of ground infrastructure, support the creation of satellite constellations, promote the widespread use of aerospace information, and explore satellite data trading opportunities.
