Chinese electric vehicle technology is neither a threat nor a danger, but an opportunity for development. Hungarian Minister of National Economy Márton Nagy said this recently in an interview with Xinhua.

“It is very important that Europe sees that Chinese technologies (electric vehicles) are neither a threat nor a danger. This is an opportunity for technological development,” he said.

According to the minister, a more constructive approach to the issue of Chinese electric vehicles is to strengthen cooperation with China, rather than introducing punitive tariffs, which he called “the worst way.” Dialogue and cooperation are the best solutions, says M. Nagy.

The official called on the European Union and the United States to invest more in research and development, as well as develop healthy competition with China, which will ultimately benefit everyone.

“I think Chinese car companies are very successful,” he said, adding that some of them are now planning to locate production in Europe.

The minister noted that the combination of falling prices for electric vehicles and batteries with an increase in range - positive developments for consumers.

As M. Nagy emphasized, Europe must accelerate the green transition in the automotive industry, which will also help increase the competitiveness of the EU.

“We must create more charging networks so that we have the infrastructure, and this is a real strategy that will bring the automotive industry as a whole closer to a new era - green transport,” he said.

M. Nagy also noted that the Hungarian government advocates economic openness and connectivity.

“I believe that the entry of Chinese companies into the EU market is a win-win situation. Hungary acts as a gateway here due to its favorable investment climate, political stability, strong investor support and highly qualified workforce,” the minister said.
