the UN General Assembly adopted on Friday, the UN budget for next year. The volume of the document amounted to 3 073 830 500 dollars, 8 million more than requested the Secretary-General of the United Nations. For the first time since 1973, the Organization's budget covers only one year, rather than two, as it was until now.
Earlier on Friday, after a long discussion the draft budget was made by members of the Fifth Committee of the General Assembly, which deals with administrative and financial matters.
Chairman of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly Tijani Mohammed-the Gang congratulated delegates with the finalization of this important document, which, he noted, is "necessary for the functioning of the UN."
"budget of the United Nations programme for 2020 provides the Organization with the resources required by the Secretariat to discharge of its tasks, and also provides the financial base for a successful start of the Decade of action for achieving the Objectives of sustainable development", - said the Chairman of the General Assembly.
He expressed the hope that all member countries of the UN in the coming year will strengthen the efforts to implement sustainable development Goals, which, as recalled by the President of the General Assembly aimed at improving the living conditions of all people on earth and protecting the environment. Among the 17 goals – measures to combat poverty and hunger, gender inequality and climate change. World leaders adopted the plan in 2015 and agreed to implement it by 2030.
