U.S. Trade Representative K. Tai and her European counterpart, V. Dombrovskis, agreed to accelerate talks on global steel issues, among other trade and economic topics raised at their meeting in Washington, according to Reuters.
Tai and Dombrovskis have "agreed to increase the pace of discussions on the global steel deal," Tai's office said.
On the automotive side, they have asked their teams to become more involved in considering the impact of the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act on electric vehicles, the office said. Tai, adding that she noted that "a serious fight against the climate crisis will require increased investment in clean energy technologies, as well as addressing supply chain and security vulnerabilities."
Earlier, her EU counterpart had raised concerns about "very broad" provisions of the law, while Tai said she was confident that both sides would be able to solve their problems.
Until the end of the year in the United States another meeting of the US-European Trade and Technology Council is planned, Tai said earlier.
