In March of this year, German steel production decreased by 11.3 percent year-on-year to 3.11 million metric tons, according to information provided by the German Federation of Steel Manufacturers (WV Stahl). In the first quarter of this year, German steel production decreased by 12.5% year-on-year to 8.50 million tons.
In the reporting month, the volume of pig iron production in Germany amounted to 1.90 million tons, which is 15.0% less than in the previous month, while in the period from January to March it decreased by 15.7% to 5.32 million tons year-on-year.
In March, the country's hot-rolled steel production decreased by 7.3% year-on-year to 2.79 million tons, down 10.9% to 7.64 million tons in the first three months of this year, compared with the same periods of the previous year.
