Fortescue founder and chairman Andrew Forrest says the UK and the EU should "stop messing around"

UK Politics/The EU should "stop fooling around" in the field of decarbonization

Fortescue founder and chairman Andrew Forrest says the UK and the EU should "stop interfering" in policies that do not support decarbonisation.

The Australian businessman said at the Innovation Zero event in London, which Callanish attended on Tuesday, that the industry should abandon fossil fuels this decade. He claims that "economics and technology exist", - but politics do not.

According to Forrest, net zero is a "fraud" because it allows the continued use of fossil fuels. Fortescue, which mines iron ore, has committed to achieving "real zero" by 2030 in terms of emissions of levels 1 and 2 by eliminating the use of fossil fuels and without purchasing carbon compensators.

In a brief speech, he stressed that the corporate sector does not abandon its commitments to combat climate change, but only the "weak, childish, short-sighted" are ready for this.

Fortescue Energy, a division of the Green Energy Group of companies, has significantly reduced its target for producing environmentally friendly hydrogen by 2030. 15 million tons per year. Against the background of macroeconomic problems, the company has abandoned some markets and continues to "optimize and improve" its project portfolio.

In its March quarter report, also released on Tuesday, Fortescue said project timelines are being reviewed and adjusted "to reflect global market conditions and uncertain policy settings." These include the Arizona project in the USA and the Gladstone PEM50 project in Australia, which are expected to be "more fully clarified" by the end of June.

The Company continues to prepare feasibility studies and planning approvals for the Holmaneset project in Norway and the Pecém project in Brazil. The company has not yet set a new production target for 2030.
