Romania's only flat-rolled steel manufacturer, Liberty Galati, has successfully resumed steel production with the launch of Blast furnace No. 5, marking an important milestone for a leading Romanian steel producer after almost a year of production downtime.
The manufacturer initially planned that in the first one to two weeks, daily steel production would be approximately 4,300 tons, and then gradually increase to 6,500 tons per day to reach the break-even level. In parallel with the resumption of production, negotiations will continue with about 1,200 creditors to approve the company's restructuring plan.
CEO Radu Ionescu emphasized the company's strategic importance to the Romanian economy, noting that LIBERTY Gala contributes about 100 million euros annually. deals with taxes and acts as a key supplier for the defense, infrastructure and construction sectors. With the relaunch of Blast furnace No. 5, Liberty Galati will continue to provide high-quality steel production and a significant number of jobs.
