Domestic prices for long products in Poland are stable amid weak demand

Prices for steel rebar and wire rod in Poland remained unchanged during the week to Friday, July 11, while sources attributed market sentiment to a lull in the construction sector and the current seasonal slowdown.

"The market is very slow right now because there is little demand from the construction sector, and new investments are driving down prices," said a source at the distribution company.

During the week until Friday, it was heard that Polish factories were offering wire rod at a price of about 2700-2800 zlotys (741-769 dollars) per ton of CPT, at the same time as a week earlier.

However, market sources estimated an acceptable price for wire rod at 2680-2720 zlotys per ton, excluding VAT.

Fastmarkets' price estimate for domestic steel rod (drawing quality) supplied from Poland was 2680-2720 zlotys per ton last week. Friday, unchanged week after week.

Domestic prices for steel fittings in Poland also remained stable during the week through Friday, Fastmarkets trading sources said.

This week, offers were presented at a price of 2480 zlotys per ton without VAT, compared with 2480-2500 zlotys per ton without VAT previously.

According to market participants, on Friday the market price for rebar was 2480-2500 zlotys per ton, excluding VAT.

Consequently, Fastmarkets' weekly price estimate for rebar steel rods, domestic, excluding VAT, in Poland, was 2480-2500 zlotys per ton on Friday, also unchanged week by week.
