Imports of bars with HS code 7214 to the EU, including rebar, increased by 163% in July compared to the same period last year and amounted to 417,065 tons, mainly due to increased supplies from Turkey, as well as increased imports from China and Ukraine, while Kazakhstan supplied more than 32,600 tons against zero a year earlier.
Shipments from Turkey increased almost fivefold to 192,449 tons, while shipments from China increased to 56,186 tons. Imports from Ukraine increased by 150% to 30,697 tons, Kallanish notes, based on Eurostat data.
Imports in January-July increased by 27% year-on-year to 1.44 million tons, with Turkey, China and Ukraine becoming the largest suppliers.
Wire rod imports increased by 38% in July to 414,289 tons, reflecting a downward trend since the beginning of the year, mainly due to increased consumption from Turkey and a significant increase in shipments from Indonesia. The UK has also made a greater contribution.
Imports from Turkey increased by 24% year-on-year to 137,503 tons in July, while shipments from Indonesia increased by 289% to 96,593 tons. The UK increased shipments by 71% to 27,844 tons.

In contrast to 7,214 rods, wire rod imports have decreased by 7% since the beginning of the year compared to the same period last year and amounted to 1.42 million tons, with Turkey, Ukraine and the United Kingdom becoming the largest suppliers. Indonesia, however, reversed the trend, increasing shipments more than fourfold to 129,441 tons.
