The production of crude steel at German plants this year showed a "generally negative trend," according to the national Federation of Steel Manufacturers WV Stahl.
From January to September, the volume of production only slightly exceeded 25 million tons, whereas a year earlier it reached 28 million tons.
Production at the oxygen converter plant decreased even more than at the electric converter plant, by 13% compared to the same period last year, to 17.4 million tons. At electric converter plants, it decreased by 5%, to 8 million tons. However, the less pronounced drop is mainly due to low production rates of EDP in 2024, according to Kallanish from V.
V. Stahl.
The difference seems to be smoothing out somewhat after 3 million tons of steel were produced in September, which is 1% less than last year. The volume of oxygen supplies increased by 4% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 2 million tons, while the volume of EAF supplies decreased by 10% to 891,000 tons
