In the first nine months of 2025, German shareholder distributors sold a total of 7.297 million tons of steel products, which is slightly less than in the same period of 2024.
The average monthly production in the first quarter was 820,000 tons, which is an obvious increase over the corresponding 2024 figure of 813,000 tons, according to Kallanish from the German Bundesverband Deutscher Stahlhandel (BDS) distributor association.
However, 2024 was also characterized by relatively high average sales in the second quarter, at 816,000 tons, while buyers were more restrained in the second quarter of this year, when monthly sales totaled 784,000 tons.
By product group, the average monthly sales volume of flat rolled products in the third quarter was 481,000 tons, up 456,000 tons from the second quarter, after reaching 512,000 tons in the first quarter. This is somewhat different from the dynamics of 2024, when average sales of flat rolled products declined during the first three quarters. In the first nine months of 2025, German shareholders sold 4.347 million tons of flat rolled products.
In the first nine months, 2.26 million tons of long products were sold. Sales of "other products", including wire rod, totaled 680,000 tons in the first nine months.
Regarding the volume of inventories, the average monthly volume in the third quarter was 1.865 million tons, which is lower than in the third quarter of 2024 (1.927 million tons), which in itself is slightly lower compared to 1.961 million tons in 2023.
