metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in February 2025 increased steel production by 5% compared to the same period in 2024 - to 572 thousand tons from 532 thousand tons, but decreased by 4% compared to the previous month, when 611 thousand tons were produced.
At the same time, Ukraine ranked 21st among 69 countries in the ranking of world producers of these products compiled by the World Steel Manufacturers Association (Worldsteel).
According to Worldsteel, in February 2025, steel production decreased by February 2024 in most of the top ten countries, except India and South Korea.
The top ten steel-producing countries in February are as follows: China - 7922 million tons ("minus" 3% by February 2024), India - 1662 million tons ("plus" 3%), Japan - 4 million tons (-5%), USA - 03 million tons (-7%), Russia – 8 million tons (-4%), South Korea - 154 million tons (7%), Turkey - 924 million tons (-6%), Brazil - 72 million tons (-6%), Germany - 702 million tons (-15%) and Italy - 813 million tons (-6%).
In total, in February of this year, steel production decreased by 4% compared to the same period last year, to 147 million tons.
According to the results of two months of the year, the top ten steel-producing countries are as follows: China - 163 million tons (minus 5% compared to January-February 2024), India - 2372 million tons (plus 8%), Japan - 1186 million tons (-5%), USA - 1858 million tons (-3%), Russia – 1739 million tons (-5%), South Korea - 1535 million tons (-8%), Turkey - 127 million tons (-7%), Brazil - 534 million tons (9%), Germany - 382 million tons (-11%) and Iran - 958 million tons (-21%).
In 2 months of this year, Ukrainian steel enterprises increased steel production by 9% compared to the same period in 2024, to 183 million tons from 0756 million tons.
In total, in January-February 2025, steel production decreased by 2% compared to the same period in 2024, to 30.958 million tons, and ranked 20th.
As reported, by the end of 2024, the top ten steel-producing countries among 71 countries looked like this: China - 1 billion 090 million tons (-7%), India - 14587 million tons (+3%), Japan - 8009 million tons (-4%), the United States - 7452 million tons (-4%), Russia - 7690 million tons (-7%), South Korea - 6531 million tons (-7%), Germany - 3234 million tons (+2%), Turkey - 3893 million tons (+4%), Brazil - 3741 million tons (+3%) and Iran - 3952 million tons (+8%).
Last year, 71 countries produced 1 billion 83.49 million tons of steel, which is 9% less than in 2023.
At the same time, Ukraine produced 575 million tons of steel in 2024, which is 26% higher than in 2023 (228 million tons). The country is in 20th place by the end of 2024.
