Damstahl, a German distributor of stainless steel products, has commissioned a third new warehouse with high floors, which it has built since 2023 to replace the old premises, Kallanish notes.
At the company's headquarters in Langenfeld, near Dusseldorf, a second warehouse with high racks was opened this month, which was completed in early October. The first one started functioning in July 2024.
In June, Damstahl opened a high-sided warehouse at its Danish site in Skanderborg with a capacity of 10,000 tons, accounting for about a third of the company's sales in Denmark. It consists of 3,800 cassettes 100 meters long and 12 meters high. The engineering company Gråkjær, the supplier high bay Fehr and the project coordinator n Langebæk A/S participated in the construction.
The warehouses in Langenfeld are 20 m high and hold 3,800 cassettes, with a capacity of 13,300 tons. These installations replaced old warehouses that did not meet modern requirements and ambitions, and accelerated delivery times, the company said. The new storage facilities provide 50% more storage capacity for long products, while the Danish site mainly handles sheet products.
Michael Lund, executive director of the Damstahl group, notes that environmental friendliness was an important factor in the design of the premises, and solar modules accounted for 30% of the energy consumption of warehouses. The construction of three new warehouse complexes in a short period of time has become the largest investment in the company's 65-year history, he adds.
The grand opening of the second warehouse in Langenfeld coincided with this month's celebration of Damstahl's 65th anniversary. Founded in 1960, the company is part of the Neumo Ehrenberg group, which also deals with aseptic and sterile liquid handling and the manufacture of precision instruments. Damstahl employs 300 people and has an annual revenue of about 560 million euros ($648 million).
